De Los Dos origin story

De Los Dos Intersectional Therapy was created to honor the multitudes that exist within us and make us who we are.

De Los Dos originated from two phrases; ni de aquí, ni de allá and por qué no los do

Ni de aquí, ni de allá, neither from here nor there, is often spoken in reference to the Latinx experience in the US and the feeling of straddling multiple cultures, while not fully belonging to one or the other.

Por qué no los dos, why not both, is an invitation to break the binary of either or and choose both.

And so, De Los Dos was born, neither from here or there, but from both. A recognition and acknowledgment of everything that makes us who we are, and a reminder that so often our experiences are not just either/or, they are both/and.

Intersectional takes this a step further by adding a power analysis. The concept of intersectionality was introduced by legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw to describe how our social identities (race, class, gender, etc.) intersect to create unique experiences with varying degrees of privilege and marginalization. We are shaped by our experience living at the intersection of the various identities we hold.

Last but not least, Therapy because that’s what I do!

Hi! I’m Theadora Zavala Ricker (she/her)

I am the founder of De Los Dos Intersectional Therapy. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), offering virtual psychotherapy throughout California. I have spent my life navigating the in-between, liminal spaces, what queer, Chicana scholar Gloria Anzaldúa referred to as the borderlands.  My borderlands identities include mixed/multicultural Mexican and white lineages, queer/bi/pansexuality, able body presenting while living with the invisible disability of chronic pain, and formerly adept masker of my neurodivergence (ADHD) in an attempt to conform to the expectations of a neurotypical world. I created De Los Dos for me and for you, to de-compartmentalize ourselves and embrace our beautiful, complex authenticity as we walk the lifelong path of self-exploration, understanding, and healing.
